In fact you will often see warnings that haveing 2 or more resident shields may cause a problem. For Spybot to suggest adding NIS to its database for just spite is totally ridiculous.
It would I think be better if the moderators of this forum opted out of the product bashing threads. My memories of when I used Norton AV , , and where I had to make my own uninstaller for them is very fresh in my mind.
On the ocassions that I have removed old versions to install new I have not experienced any difficulty, providing any realtime protection is shut down first. Spybot is offering people the chance to change the way people belonging to the same organization fighting spyware work together.
I don't think it's unreasonable to ask a fellow member to work towards the same goal by swopping info. I didn't really take offense either at the light-hearted banter in this thread about Norton.
There was no real malice intended. Just pray Eldmannen doesn't read this. Spybot is offering people the chance to change the way people belonging to the same oranization fighting spyware work together. No, please waste our donations to go through legal channels, instead of using them to fight malware. Please note that under ASCs definition, technology that is implemented in ways that impairs user control over material changes that affecs their system security, in other words software that reduces system security like NIS does, falls under the term Spyware and Other Potentially Unwanted Technologies , so adding NIS to the detection would not be revenge, but a strict following of the ASC definitions.

Been using the free version for a very long time. Spybot Search and Destroy Free Edition is a free security software, an excellent antispyware, anti-adware removal tool. It will detect and remove most of these threats: Adware files, Trojans, Dialers, PUPs, Browser Hijackers unwanted toolbars , Keyloggers, Rootkits and other malware or junkware files can infect your computer. Some folks use Spybot as an on-demand scanner to periodically check their systems, but any realtime components TeaTimer should be disabled.
The Windows Firewall does not provide the same degree of protection as the N Firewall which is far superior. And again, having two firewalls running can cause conflicts. During installation N should by default turn off the Windows Firewall. You should check to be sure that Windows Firewall is turned off.
If Tea-Timer is disabled it can be used as an on-demand scanner. The windows firewall is turned off when Norton is installed and the Norton firewall is much more robust than the windows firewall. I use additional on-demand scanners as a "second opinion" to Norton, but Norton does an excellent job.
Windows Firewall was not turned off, so I turned it off. I don't know why the install did not turn it off. Norton is a bona fide copy. Is the Norton firewall automatically on? FirewallDisableNotify Microsoft. So I did not fix the problems and searched for a Spybot "bug" solution and only found the news article where Spybot can't imagine to be a security problem when Norton is running. These warnings did not occur with Norton version used till some weeks ago, so it is probably a Spybot bug which is not caring about Norton existence.
If no known security program is caring about above issues then the messages and fixes are good, but when other security software is running then it should not complain about not using Microsoft own ones.
